Hmm, are they both the same fish? Bevause, i cant identify the first pic. But the second one, im 100% positive that it is a Brichardi.

hiya well they were sold to me as the same fish ....as a group of shell dwellers..tang...hmmm i hope they are the same fish...they all hide in the shells.

hiya yes i thought they may be brevis or ocellatus..cant decide just not confident enough with this cichlid at the moment...hmmm anyone out there know for sure please let me know what you think.

this may help

There are two commonly seen varieties in the trade – the sunspot and the "standard" brevis:

* The sunspot brevis is a brownish-mauve colored fish with a bright golden spot on each side of the fish right behind the pectoral fins. During periods of stress, the fish develops light tan stripes down its sides.


* The "standard" brevis is actually from Kigoma, Tanzania. It has a brownish body with 9 tan stripes down its side.

I think the only difference between males and females is that males are bigger

ok thanks mark. the darker one has been like that since i got it...it constantly is in and out of the shells...and chases away all the fish who come near it..etc moving sand the other 3 just swim about together and hide in the shells. Will see how it goes as its early days.
