Cicada Emerging From Shell

Saw this guy on the fig tree a couple of days ago... Only the head had emerged when I first found it, and in the time it took me to get my camera it was fully out

A few moments later, the wings are drying... I think cicadas are really beautiful :)

That is a cool sight to see, thanks for posting pictures! I've only ever seen one adult, and it fell on my head when I was down on campus. (Poor thing was half-dead - it was already October.)

They just started singing here last week. I just love this time of year! :rolleyes:
 
Cicadas are awesome.
INSANELY loud though!
We get massive green ones here and big black ones with red eyes. Ive also seen black ones with brown stripey patterns all over their bodies :p
 
We've already seen a few dead ones... my dog loves to find the half-dead ones and catch them, because they make a horrible noise :lol:. Then she drags the dead ones and empty shells into the house when we're not watching :rolleyes:
