Hey

I'm setting up my 300L fish tank and need some suggestions on which tetra to get?

I would like to keep 3 different species of tetra, but having difficulty choosing which ones?

The ones I'm interested are:
cardinal tetra
flame tetra
lemon tetra
rummy nose tetra
black phantom tetra
and penguin tetra

i welcome any input?
thx Jason

yes i also like cardinal tetra, but personal i like flame and penguins.
will those 3 species do well togeather???

possible how many tetra could i get if i also have the following fish?

4 swordtails
2 gouramis
1 feather fin catfish
and 3 corys

i have a 300L tank?

I think cardinals look stunning when in a huge group, especially when in a heavily planted tank as they really stick out. Haven't kept many types of tetra to be honest - rummmynose are quite nice though, what with the red 'nose' and stripes.

I'm thinking of getting 6 cardinal tetra, 5 penguin tetra, 6 flame tetra and 6 lemon tetra.

In a 300L you could easily have 30-40 cardinals and the rest of the other fish i would have 10 corydoras if i were you :good:

Yes, any type of tetra can go together :good:

Buenos Aires Tetras are known to rip up any smaller fish, and are quite boisterous and aggressive, similar to a tiger barb (only my buenos aires had the tiger barbs hiding in the corner of the tank) This makes them unsuitable for less active tetras like red eye tetras and black skirt tetras, and they'll eagerly eat cardinals and neons if given the chance

Silver Tip Tetras have been known to show similar behavior, though I've never kept them personally

Let's not forget bucktooth tetras which don't really get along with anything

And I'm sure there are others... :hey:

But I digress. The tetras on the list above will get along with each other, the black phantoms probably being the most aggressive, but still not all too threatening

Be aware that having a full grown featherfin with smaller slim bodied fish like cardinals may lead to occasional disappearances in the school
