choosing fish

I'm currently getting ready to start filling my tank with water and geting up and running, In the mean time whilst I wait patiently ( and browse the forums).. Can anyone recomend a website where us beginners can possibly see a picture of all these fish that get mentioned

I use Fish Index and Planet Catfish Most have pictures, and theres alot of really useful information there.

Try fishprofiles.com includes pic and info for pretty much all tropical fish species

For pictures, make sure you have the correct scientific genus/species name (not the common name) and enter it in a Google Image Search.

Example: Paracheirodon innesi (Neon tetra)

I use non-scientific names and it seems to work just as well although I do that less often as I want info too.

You're right, of course. The common name works pretty well too. I just find that for some species (Siamese Algae Eater being the best example), putting the scientific name is more likely to get more accurate hits.
