Okay, how's this sound for a 63 litre tank (PH 7.3/soft water) -

6 rummy-nose tetras
3 panda cories

Is that okay on stocking? More/less of either?

Was at the LFS yesterday and had a really good look at all the fish. Both the rummy-nose and the cories were just so INTERESTING and busy little things, swimming around and being inquisitive. Some of the other fish looked more dazzling (cardinal tetras for example) but were just there in their tank but not half so busy.

Liked the look of the Guppies but I'm sure I've read they're tricky for beginners?

Adding Ammonia to my tank now every day as its almost 0 by the next day. Nitrites high but nitrates not kicking in yet so a week or two to go I think...

Cheers for advice

Jo

Sounds good. Guppies, everyone starts with them (well kind of), easy to keep but it's good to be a bit different. Maybe buy a couple Otos to help with Algae? Great little dudes they are.

Guppys are no longer as hardy as they once were due to inbreeding etc. Read about on web and you'll hear similar things so are no longer as easy to keep as they once were. Rummy nose tetras and panda cories are not a doddle to keep. Both are relatively sensitive to water conditions from what ive read but that doesn't put them beyond being kept by a beginner. Stocking seems fine. They both reach around 2" so 18 altogether is just about OK. Id personally go for 4 pandas and 5 tetras as id worry that only 3 pandas may hide a lot. Theyre happier in larger groups. My only worry is how long your tank is as rummy noses are fairly active and ideally need at least a 24" tank.

I think your idea is awesome, your not one of the new guys who refuses to acknowlede that balas and arrowanas will not go in a 10 gallon :good:

Also, atm I am going through a 'love rummynose tetras phase' :D

Have you thought of Golden Pristellas (sp?) they are the funniest, perkiest fish in my tank, and are truly nosy and highly entertaining.

Just measured it. Exactly 24" so hopefully it'll be okay for them.

Thanks for your advice - will get 5 tetras and 4 pandas.

I have 3 Panda corys in a 90g tank with a ton of hiding spots but they are constantly out and about. They are a really nice fish though so I wouldn't hesitate to get more but I don't think it is necessary to ensure an active group.
