Choosing A Pet Bird

Hi, just read your post, i no its abit late, i have an amazon parrot,he is very cute and loving but needs as much attention as a child. I would recommend you only get a hand reared bird if you have the time to spend with it,if not get a pair, they will be friendly but also have eachother for company. parrots and parakeets take alot of looking after and time out of their cage. parrots and larger parakeets will almost certainly trash your house, chew wood and poo everywhere unless you have its wings clipped, which personally i dont agree with. Lovebirds are pretty noisy so are most parakeets and conures,so bare that in mind. i would go for perhaps a cockatiel (not a Cockatoo) Bourkes, parrotlet or even a handreared budgie, they have great little personalities and can cope fairly well if they are left on their own. Let us no what you get. Good luck.

Hi Thanks, well in the end I found a couple of Kakarikis for sale quite locally, They were aviary bred but the one seemed to be very responsive so i took a gamble and brought her home,

It has now been 6 days and she is just starting to step up, (when she wants to) and feel comfortable around me and my family so i'm hoping she should become quite tame eventually.

hi i keep and breed several types of lovebird but wouldnt recommend them for a variety of reasons hard to tame, dont mimic, can be aggresive to their own kind especially if you end up with two hens ......... etc

for something small even shorter than a cockateil i would recommend a senagal parrot their cuddly fun little birds and are not to expensive
hope that helps feel free to msg me i love talking about birds lol
scot :)

they are also readily available

sorry just saw your last post kakarikis are great birds too you should have no probs tameing her given patience

Fishers Lovebirds, Have 2, They are really tame and nice (helps to get hand raised birds), Not to loud, can be agressive to other animals but thats to be expected.

Off to a good start ! Keep us updated on how they are ! I love birdies.

Once you own one yourself ,you truly see how smart they really are. Amazing creatures.
