Chocolate Gourami Biotope

Thanks everyone.

I look forward to seeing more of your aquascaping. Which other biotopes and species tanks have you got plans for and are we going to be seeing lots of them in PFK?

Thanks, Andy.

I'd like to try a fast flowing stream next. I don't want to give too much away...

There should be a blog about this CG tank on the PFK site today sometime.

I'd like to feature these biotopes in the mag too. We'll see.

Nice what other palnts can go in with these fish in this ph. I am looking at making a biotope of them in a40l aquacube.

If you're serious about a biotope then this may interest you -

Cryptocoryne, Blyxa and Eleocharis would be suitable. Trouble is, in a blackwater biotope, you need intense light for submerged growth.

This is why I've stuck to floating species, where light and CO2 aren't an issue, of course.

Wonderful tank! What kind of lighting are you using, as it seems pretty dim. Or is that because of the tannis?

Thanks that a cool read. Yeah i am definitely looking at setting up a biotope. I thought about it ages ago but couldn't at the time. Would i be able to add a small shoal of rasboras to the biotope. Also, where did you get them from. I know i can get some form Hertfordshire Fisheries but they don't look good and i don't think they were being kept in soft water as there was no tannins visible etc.
Thanks,
Luke

Hi George. Any reason for that much light seeing as you don't have any submersed plants?

ahh, so you under exposed to make the shot that dark... well that seems to explain a fair bit lol. Regardless of what you did, the tank looks awsome!

nice blog :good: How long had you been planning this tank? You have now inspired me and i hope to do a biotope in the future. :good:

About 2 days. I was on a shop tour with PFK deputy editor and I came up with the idea then. I read a few articles on CGs and luckily enough an LFS had some in.

As the blog says, I originally wanted an Amazon biotope with Apistos, but with the Sumatra wood and Indian almond leaves, a SE Asian was more suitable for an accurate biotope.

If anyone is serious about their fish, then I recommend doing a biotope. It's all about the fish... Making it look nice is a nice bonus too.

I don't know why I haven't commented yet on here... Great tank, as usual. The fish look top notch as well!

You have made me contemplate the idea of the biotope aquarium. I'd love to do one that is a Florida theme, but it would be very interesting trying to collect the fish myself.

heard about your gourami loss on the PFK website    if you are looking for some dither fish there are some rasboras and danios from Asia that you might be interested in. Or maybe some loaches but they might be too big for your tank. again sorry for your loss
