Chocolate Chip Star Fish Diet

See the problem with small starfish is that they have this horrible habit of turning into big starfish and overpredating the tank.

Depending on the starfish...providing for it as in having a food source readily available, having enough rock for grazing or a large population of pods or frozen foods on hand. Right conditions as in a big enough tank or nothing in the tank that will eat the starfish...basic stuff.

If you can/are willing to provide for it, I think it's an awesome addition to your tank under the right conditions.
Except the food needs of Linckia are not fully understood. They certainly won't eat a sheet of nori or anything like. The only starfish I can recommend for tanks without hundreds of pounds of rock are small Fromia, predatory starfish (Protoreaster, etc), and brittle stars (though belonging to a different class of organisms they aren't exactly starfish).

On the whole, sea stars tend to die of starvation. You stand a better chance at survival if you have a large tank, but, for the most part, many do poorly. Many of them have a diet of sponges which are not kept in our tanks. The real problem though, is that when they die, they disintegrate very quickly and they really can much up your tank..if not nuke it. Many boast about having them successfully yet only having owned them for a few months.

Think twice about adding one to your tank.
