definately black rather than blue. Brings out the colours of the fish. And sand will look better than the gravel - but be careful when you're cleaning the glass, because sand can leave scratches on your tank if you're not careful.

when you undertook the hobby did you do ANY research on anything? you dont seem to know anything about anything. i would suggest you buy some books and read them to even understand the basics as you have soo many questions to ask. and seeing as you know very little how come you have accumulated 837 posts in 1.5 months.? thats around 18 per day - so this means they are all 'crap' posts as you cant be giving advice - fair enough some of them may be asking questions as we all do from time to time but not this many. no way. i really do think you should get some book and read up - from the basics to types of fish (compatibility, stocking etc)

I think you're tanks look lovely - that animal tank is fun!

Don't worry about not having live plants - I tried them then went back to fake as it was easier in the end... Got silk instead of plastic as they look more authentic.

I agree with sand and a black background. I bought argos playsand about 6 months ago, think its about £4.50 for 15 kg. I only needed about 2 for my 350l. Buy 2 then you can always take one back if you don't use it. it's a shame you don't live near me as I've got half a bag here unused!

I also want to say I think the fact you have found a forum as good as this and ask lots of questions means that you are a good fishkeeper - it means you care. You are researching by asking experienced people with good knowledge and advice. It's more than a lot of people do. I have learnt much more on this forum than I have from the internet - there's a lot of conflicting advice around so it's nice to know you can come here and get help from people who have had the experience and can pass it on to you. :good: I also have found that books are rather vague and/or outdated, also you can't have a conversation with a book if you don't understand exactly what they're on about...

Nick16 no i didn't but i ahve learned. I know i ask many questions but thats cause i ahve nothing better to do and i might as well make sure i'nm right. Dooes it matter if i post a lot no? exactly. Agree with pirate lets say books are crap. And i do answer posts actuallly not just ask my own but i normally CAN'T answer as i'm not expeirienced yet.

Thanks pirate. Same i've tried live plants about 2 left which are brown and horrible. I can get argos play sand £2.50 per 15kg. Yeah i agree i don't really like the iternet you have to search and search. :good:

Your posting crap as well nick by critising me so ha. Only posts u say to me are negative and never helpful.

Thanks all Lucy.

thats becuase you always refuse my help, kubora said the same to me last night. book are not crap, all of my books are new 2008 issues so are completely up to date.

what books you got nick? just out of curiosity?
i have the Bänsch atlas thats a brilliant book. gives wild sizes though like managuense 20" whcih lets face it wont happen in captivity usualy
and the other is a very reliable encyclopedia ive read cover to cover a million times, i do agree with nick if you can get some books not only will it increase your knowledge but help u learn about all the differnt kinds of fish and which direction your fish keeping will take you next

and as for the tank it looks alot better now but with some live plants and some nice smoothe sand it would look amazing

an interpet one, its actually 2007 but near enough and another one thats 08 but it missing the front and back cover, they will be somewehre in my room but i cba to look for them!

Like a few people said, it'd make a good tank for a kid's room. They might like it more than a natural look, and it's not a bad hobby to get them involved in, since it teaches patience, responsibility, and can foster an interest in science and nature. Though if you end up with a house full of MTS sufferers, none of you you will ever be able to afford retirement!

Now if it were going to be a display tank in a social area of the house, then yeah, I can see saying it's rubbish, it's not as attractive of a display for that use. I wouldn't have it in my living room, looks like a child's toy. Now, I say this when my mantlepiece has Optimus Prime and Illidan Stormrage action figures on it, so I'm a huge hypocrite.
