Never heard of it, but shall definitely do some research

Clean up and repaint the stand first, Then clean and repair the tank, then paint 3 sides black, NOW remember to turn the tank around before you pain it, That way the repaired bit is painted and bit faces the wall and nobody will ever know.
 
As for filtration you wont really need much, something like this
 

 
Carefully hidden behind a rock or bit of wood, You could even get creative and make a waterfall. You will need a decent light.
