Almost 2 weeks ago I bought 2 Chinese Algie eaters for my 50 Gallon tank. Decided on them cause I was told they only get about a few inches big at most. Well today I went to go look for them cause I heard they like to hide in areas. And I moved everything in my tank, looked under everything and there is no sign of them anywhere. Anyone have an idea? Maybe my Blue or Red Lobster got to them I have no idea.

Here is a list of what I have in my tank:

One 4 1/2" Black Ghost Knife
One 2" Texas Chiclid
One 1 1/2" Jack dempsy
One 2 1/2" Blue Lobster
One 3" Red Lobster
Two 2" Clown Loachs

you were told wrong about the Chinese algae eaters. They can reach 12inches in lenght and are rather agro when big.

It's also a bad idea keeping any bottom dwelling fish when you have crayfish wandering around the tank. They will eat anything they can catch, including algae eaters.

Your 50gallon tank is probably not going to be big enough for an adult Jack Dempsey and an adult Texas. They will probably fight over territory when they mature.

Thanks for the info Colin. I should of did some homework before buying, but live and learn I guess. I will have a bigger tank when the fish get to that point.

Yes, that is the golden color morph. They're simply okay at algae eating, and tend to get worse as they age. They get large and pretty mean after they hit ~4 inches (about a year for most of them).

Bristlenose plecs, pitbull plecs, or ottos are better choices for algae eaters in almost all cases.
