hi, was wondering around the pet shop and spoted this little creature. as i was not really planned to buy any fish i didnt check info. so i start asking shopkeeper about it. he said hes got him self 2 of them and they are really good algae eaters and good with community tank...bought it...2 months was ok...it start growing...and now i have a terrorist in my tank, he keeps chasing fishes especially gouramis(now start to rip scales off them). well i done research and got questions, some info says they are friendly some say its agressors. in another shop i ask info, they said they are really peasfull, and they got them in every screen tank...so is it just mine like that, or its the species?

Your CAE is starting to show typical behaviour, they need a big tank and any tankmates should be fast movers.

Yes, it's typical of the species to get aggressive as it gets older, this isn't a one off.

they are very teritorial and will dominate a certain area of the tank attacking anything that swims passed
very good algae eaters if its for that purpose then can i suggest otocinclus as these are excellent algae eaters and dont dominate your tank or if you like the look chain loach

Got 2 of these in my 6 foot. Allthe research i did sugested they will get aggressive as they grow an have started to show this. They chase each other at times or some of the other fish. Other times they peacefully just lay next to my clown loaches not bothering.

I will be looking to give them to a friend who has his own LFS, as dont want them stressing my fish to much.
