At the beginning of last week I had two chinchillas - Lilo & Stitch and being the kind heart sucker that I am I took in a third chin - Shelia who has some problems in keeping her weight on and may need life long treatment for her teeth.

So thinking that I would be quite happy with three chins for a while as there is nowhere else to put any more - what happens this morning? Lilo decides to give me a birthday present - two kits!

So now I am the proud owner of 5 chins!!!!

Anyway enough words. Pictures of the babies. They were only a couple of hours old when I took the pictures.

And one of the new family (don't worry he is only in there for the picture - he is currentlysulking in his own cage and going to have his bits done on Tuesday)

A quick glance tells me they are both male but I am going to have another look in a couple of days when they have settle down a little more.

I have now got some digi scales now and they both weigh 53g which I am lead to believe is a fairly healthy weight. Mum seems to be happy with them and they both appear to be feeding which is always a bonus.

I love the marking on your little one.

Congrats! Now you can enjoy some VERY clumsy baby chins  Baby chinchillas are more clumsy then Larry Mo & Curly in a china shop!!!

I recommend you take out all of the play toys and obstcals in the cage at the moment. Baby chins have a tendency of getting hurt on them.

All sorted. Much to the digust of mum, who likes her play things, they just have a cardboard box and an old carpet tube (seured in place to stop it rolling) to play with and run round on and hide in. A she has her mineral block/gnaw cube secured out the way for her to chew on.

I always leave wooden toys in for them even after any give birth.
You will need to stop the sand baths for about 10 days as the female could get an infection if she is allowed a bath

Congrats, both of you. Those are gorgeous little baby chins you have there.

Lovely surprise _nina_

Look forward to updated pics of the little babies as they grow.

Hope all goes well with your other little chin, Sheila.

:D

Well as you said they would, they dropped down 3g each to 50g and at their weigh in today they are back up to 53g each so only a couple of grams up but their tummys are rounded.

The kits don't seem to be calling for food but mum has some cranberry juice in her water. They are always either near her or under her feeding so hopefully in the next couple of days their weight should start to shoot up.

I can't believe how much your little one has grown in just a few days. Mine are still so tiny compared to him.
