java moss on rock structure

if i buy about 7 cherry shrimps, do you think they could breed in these conditions? i'm thinking the only problem could be the danios thinking snack time.

Ditto with last comment.
They will not bother the adult's, but will surly eat any shrimplets they can get!

so they pretty much have a 0% chance of survival? :(

i have an old betta prison, 2 litres. would they breed in there? (with some java moss added?)

i would keep a few adults in there and remove them after shrimplets are spotted.

With the danio's they would eat most of the babies but you may get the odd one surive

Betta's will also eat the shrimplets. But it sounds like you no longer have him so yes that will be fine, use mature water from you main tank and it will cycle in 10-14 days with moss they will be very happy and give loads of light to encourage some algae growth but not to much ofcourse :)

how many adults do you think i could fit in the 2L for breeding? and while it cycles, could i put it in direct sunlight for algae? i might take some from the main tank

turns out i don't have the betta bowl. :( it was sold at a garage sale.

however i do have a floating breeder that would go in the main tank. that should work, right?

Thats just typical!!!!!!! oh well cant help that then.

As for breeding traps, i dont think so, surly their would not be enough food to grow in it so u would have to add some food for them.

by food, you mean algae, right? i could scrape algae off the glass and put it in there. also i have algae sinking tablets.

Bare in mind you're considering keeping about 30 shrimp in a breeding net about 8x8x8 cm for about 2 months. And dependent on the breeding trap it may have gaps big enough for the shrimp to get out anyway, or might not have large enough gaps to allow adequate water circulation.

it's 15x9x10 cm.

as for circulation, i just tested it under the tap, and it has pretty good flow.

i haven't a doubt some little rebel is gonna get out, but as long as i can contain the majority, i'll be happy. :)

You should always feed shrimp algae wafers on top of what they scavenge as they will overpopulate and starve themselves. I feed mine once every 2days.

ok i'll give them some wafers.

i just found out the price of them ö. would 1 male and 2 females breed?

The 8cm^3 was just a random guess :)
Another thing is the fact that shrimp poo alot, and i mean alot! The hygiene will quickly deteriorate, and you will have to clean the trap out somehow, and that means loss of baby shrimps.
Im not trying to discourage you from breeding your shrimp, i just dont believe its 'nice' to keep them in a floating trap; shrimp like to swim, scrounge etc.
Have you considered trying to breed in just a well planted tank with lots of java moss in which to hide in? People still see success, not quite to the extent you are hoping for, but enough to get the population on the rise.
