My 48 gallon tank is almost ready apart from the substrate. I decided on getting 25 red wine cherry shrimp from aquabid and 11 crystal red shrimp grade S from planetinverts .com

What should the ph be?
Which should i add first

How often do cherry shrimp breed?

how often do crystal red shrimp breed?

Also i heard crypts can be poisnesses to shrimp, does anybody know if thats true?

PH should be between 5.5 and 8. They prefer it slightly acidic, but its more important to have a stable PH than messing with the water to get an exact figure.

It doesn't matter which order you add them in, they are peaceful with each other. I would probably add the Cherrys first as I assume they are cheaper.

I've not got Cherrys but my 1 female CRS is breeding about once a month.

I've not heard of Crypts in particular being poisonous before. Anubias Bateri var Nana are sometime described as poisonous but I have one in my shrimp tank and they are ok. The main thing to be careful with adding plants are if they have been kept with chemicals designed to kill snails in the shop. These chemicals will kill shrimp too so you should rinse the plants well before adding them to the tank.

They are fine together, the only problem is that the cherry will breed a whole lot faster than the crystal reds, if I dont remove loads of them from my shrimp tank the survival rate of the crystal red babies is very low. Ideal ph for CRS is 6.5 Kh of 3 or 4 and GH of about 4-6, the cherry prefer slightly harder alkaline water but they will do fine in 6.5ph or just about any water, they grow bigger in harder water I find. As shrimper says stability of ph is more important than the number, but CRS are generally thought not to do so well above 7.5 but people have reported exceptions. I would add the cherry shrimp first if they do well in the water its a good indication that it will be okay for the more expensive CRS. They all breed about once a month depending on temperature. I have read that about crypts maybe if you have a lot of them and they all melt together then they might cause a problem, I have kept crs and cherry with crypts and never noticed any problems.
