Cherry Barbs Group Or Pairs?

hi iv heard that cherry barbs are best kept in groups of round about 6 but some places say to only keep a pair of them. i have a 40 litre wiv nothing in yet and possibly be getting at least a 100 litre!!!!
any help plz

I had 6 of them in a 200 litre tank and they seemed very social. Some of them stayed together all the time. I have plants in the tank. They liked to swim around the plants and hide in it sometimes.

I would recommend to have few of them in the tank will plenty of plants.

they would need to go in the 100litre and u will need 6 of them. and this is depending on what else is in there

40litre is too small.
