Poor Cher - she was never quite all the ticket, when I bought her she was shaky but recovered from that, then she lost her black and is now nearly all gold but she didn't seem worried by it, today she's having lots of trouble swimming - she's upside down a lot of the time, I also think she has fin rot. :(

She's done this upside down swimming before and recovered and swum normally again - well, normal for Cher, that is. (Narayan says she's defective but I call her "special"!)

What's causing her to be upsidedown?
Is it a swim bladder problem?
How can I correct this?
Do I need to do water changes as well as medicine to eradicate fin rot?
Was it caused by stress during water change?
Is it the heat?

That fish looked shifty the day you bought it. It was mostly black, now its turning to gold/orange. I tell you.. ITS NOT RIGHT...

For all you know it may not even be a fish. I could be still changing right now!.. growing teeth and claws...climbing out of your tank and slooowly pulling itself up your stairs and approaching your bedroom, where you are sound asleep........
MWUHAHAHAHAHA!

Nah! its defective ;)

Seriously though, I thought "swim bladder problem" when I saw her tonight.

:/

Ach! I'm trying, after all i'm picking up some treatment for you tomorrow. Please don't worry!

We'll sort it ;)

It sounds like someone missed out on the first rule of purchasing a fish lol. NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES buy an unhealthy looking fish, no matter how low the price is! Poor thing..

I've had Cher for months - she was one of the first fish in the tank and she wasn't unhealthy then, just had a little bit of gold on her blackness (so I could tell the difference between her and Sonny!)

Over the months she got progressively more gold and less black but no one can tell me why.

This morning she looked dreadful and a naughty crab had climbed into the little box with her and had a go at her tail I think. She has hardly any tail left. :(

We've treated her with fin rot stuff and I'm happy to say that tonight she looks a bit better. Swimming upright, er well upright-ish, mostly. :) And doing the hippy hippy shake which is a dance move unique to Cher!

I gave her a crushed, defrosted pea too, which she ate.
Her tail is still very tatty but she's definately perkier than she was this morning.

Stay tuned for the next exciting installment of "My Special Fish"! :/

Oh, and guys - a little help here please?

Cher is feeling better! I popped her into one of those plastic breeding boxes (or rather Narayan did) and bought some fin rot medicine (or rather Narayan did), fed her with a crushed pea (recommended everywhere for constipation!) and today she's looking better - her tail is still very ragged but it HASN'T GOT ANY WORSE. Swimming motion has improved too and hardly spending any time upside down at all.

Let's hear it for Cher! :kana:

I've been a bit quiet on this thread as I've been taking advice from other sources.
cher is now in her own glass bowl with some swimbladder treatment.

She's still upside down but she's hangin on in there. I didn't think she'd last the night.

(Also her tail improved but then she got what appears to be fin rot on one fin)

What IS it with this GODDAM fish? She's better... she's worse.....shes got something else.... now it's cleared up....... shes worse again, she's better again... repeat ad infinitum. :grr:

I wish I could help hun but I cant so I just want to say I'm sorry that you're going through this and I hope Cher gets better.

Morning Red I hope all is going good today
I wish there was more I could do for Cher and you

Thanks for your kind wishes Love-birds. :D

Cher is currently the right way up. When I changed the water and put the swimbladder treatment in this morning it seemed to make a difference, but I'm sure by this afternoon she'll be back on her back. Also she seems a little "gaspy" and she's not hoovering the gravel like she usually does. :(

I bought a sunset platy a while ago that had finrot and ich when I got her....she was the last platy left in the tank at the LFS and I guess you could say I felt sorry for her....and she was so intent on looking at me when I walked past...not anyone else, just me....

So I put her in a quarantine tank with salt and medication and warmer water and within 2 days the ich had cleared and by the end of the week the finrot had cleared.....she stayed in there for quite a while with no further attacks of ich or finrot....now she is my favourite fish in my 30gall community tank.....

And she is also the healthiest fish!!

That said, if I didn't have a quarantine tank I wouldn't have done it

I'm tempted to tell you all that Cher is upright again and swimming almost properly but I'm not going to as she'll start acting up again!

mabe she needs a break from sonny . .........
