There is little doubt that this fish is real and was first described in 1939.

The video that is currently circulating on the net, was taken from an R.O.V(remote operated vehicle).

As to keeping one of these fishes in an aquarium, that would never be possible as they live at a depth of around 600 metres (2,000 ft) to 800 metres (2,600 ft). This means that bringing one to the surface would kill it due to the pressure changes.
