Oh ok thats good, so to prevent changes in the waters condition over night, i will have the main lights on over the tank through the day, and sump light on through the night so there is always something growing if you get what i mean.

Thats exactly what I do 1234, I have chaeto in my refugium and I keep the lighting on in reverse to my tank lighting so when my tank lights go off, my refuium lights come on. I find this is working well for me. Also I have had no problems with my chaeto going sexual on me!
