I was just wondering if you could use those cheap flakes you can get from the pound shop for a big tub?
Do those expensive ones really bring out the fishes color like it says on the box?

I use Hikari Tropical Micro Pellets, am I just wasting my money?

Food seems to last a long time, so I don't mind paying a bit extra if there's any chance it's better food.

I wouldnt buy the cheap flakes, they seam to disolve in the water too quickly making the water a murky colour, which could mean more cleaning.
I've tried them before for goldfish and they didnt really like them, they dont even smell like fish food, it smells like paper. Haha.

Heard the saying you get what you pay for?
IMO it's best to pay a bit more for a quality food if you want the best for your fish

Would you like a diet of the human equivalent, day in day out? Cheap and mass produced foood is cheap for a reason, it's just bulk feed for fish to keep them full, it doesn't do much for them nutritionally. It's worth paying a bit more for good quality nutritional food, as a little goes a long way with it, and it does them more good.

Hikari is a decent brand, you're not wasting your money on it.

In my experience the usually the ones with the best ingredients are the best choice, I've seen those cheap old flakes have better ingredients than the expensive color enhancing ones
