My main tank has what looks to be an alge bloom. I'm going to wait a couple of weeks before I treat the water but I'd love some suggestions on what to put my snails in if/when I treat it. On the bottle it specifically says not to use it if there are inverts in the tank.

I have 3 mysetry/apple snails (haven't determined which species yet) and a ramshorn snail. They range in size from just under an inch to an inch and a half.

I was thinking of just getting a large bucket or two from the dollar sore and putting them in that. The buckets are probably 3-5 gallons each, but they wouldn't have a heater or a filter.

I was also thinking of putting them with my bettas but they each only have a one gallon tank...

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated :D

Well I dont really think snails are very delicate so a bucket seems fine to me as long as they can't get out. :good:

The ramshorn would be fine without heat (provided it's the little sort, and not the giant sort), but the apple snails need it.

On the other hand, there is no need for a filter, as apple snails are lunged.

I'm not sure why you're treating an algae bloom though. It's ugly but harmless to beneficial to the tank, and just the sort of thing snails are good at cleaning up.

I'll be making another topic on it, but my tank's been really green (not being able to see an inch through the water, literally) for a couple of weeks now. I'm starting to think it may be alge, but I'm still now entirely sure

Just put your tank in darkness for awhile and the problem should be solved.

Alternately, put some fast-growing, easy plants in.
