Chat notifications won't clear

How do I clear this? Clicking on it opens the chat, but the (2) doesn't go away.

I have the same thing happen to me so I simply close the web browser and reload it and then load the forum again.

Is it how many users are in the chat room?

the number is how many have been in it while you were on the forum. It keeps the number there for some reason even after people have left the chat room.

Personally it doesn't work that well. People ask questions on it and nobody responds for however long. I usually leave a message on it telling people to post on the forum rather than use the chat program. It's well intentioned but needs someone on it 24/7 and that doesn't happen.
