Chat Events Suggestion

I don't think the suggestions was to have specific times for "fish chat sessions in general" but rather specific "specialist speaker" topics every now and again. That's very different and personally, that I would find interesting

Well lets just let this thing go shall we everyone? Anyway I'd like to suggest something in the way of instead of people coming on livechat finding no one there they could click on a button next to the live chat one that tells people who is in there so they can choose if they want to go in or not.

Here is another idea for improving it - give all mods the power to go in as OPs and remove/ban anyone when needed.

The point is, the only mod that's on there 'regualrly' is CFC, with a couple of others popping in once a week or so. And by the time whichever ops are on generally realise there are idiots abound, they've gone. Which is not good, especially if they're using a fake user name/whatever, or everyone forgets to record the convo. Both of which have indeed happened several times before. The (very sad, unfourtunately ) members of the 'chat crew' generally have a pretty good idea of whether someone is a numpty or not, and TBH the only way to get the constant idiots to get lost are IP bans, which generally don't happen. IP bans from the forum too BTW...

Having a "whos online" button is likely to encourage less people to join - if the chat is empty and you dont have to join to see then it will stay empty because no one will join an empty room if they want to chat. The key is to have idlers in the room that are partially active. Enough people like that and a room will exist with enough chance to get a decent chat going on a regular basis.

Idle! the chat needs more semi-active idlers!!

This idea has actually been tossed around the mods forum a few times. The issue comes with time schdules and those not really there to enjoy the specialized chat disrupting things, as well as the fact that some people just are not able to use chat due to restrictions on the computer they're using or problems with their computer platform, etc. The issue of mods and OPs is being discussed, we are well aware of the issues with that, thank you.

However, it would be easier to coordinate something on the forum rather than in chat. It would be easier to moderate, the discussion could carry over more than one session so folks from various time zones could post their questions and comments in regard to the discussion. It would basically be a structured thread, that started out with a long post about a topic and then continue with questions and comments both from members and from the "expert" leading the discussion. I thought something like this had been done at some point, maybe someone that remembers it can find it.

However it could be worked out, the idea is a great one. And we have many members now who have become "experts" or "specialists" in certain areas, who I'm sure would love to share some of that knowledge-base with us in this way.

FYI...Navarre and I are presently in discussion about a marine chat. We were actually going to try and do it this week, but, alas, the best laid plans. We are still planning it and, although, FW outnumber Marine by far, it may be a good testing ground. TBC. SH

I'm sure this has been mentioned, or people know about it... During official chat events, simply set the mode in the channel to moderated, so only those with voice or ops can type. Then have ops give voice to those with questions (message the op in chat with your question and they'll pick the best ones) one at a time, and you've got a very controlled environment for official live chat events. If that's been mentioned, then I'm late to the party, and I apologize

I'm glad there are people interested and it's cool to see that it's being bounced around by the mods, even if it is in the forum rather than chat. Thanks for letting us know that Mam.

I just feel it would be a shame to not take advantage of the knowledge and skills that so many of the members have built up. I've learned a lot from several people on the forum and an 'event' seems like a good way for other people to benefit in a faster, simpler manner than normal postings allow.
