Channa Sp 'assam Blue'

hey guys just got a new channa yay ...
so is it classed as a blehri?
it was sold as channa sp blue assam
it looks beauiful and has settled in nicely with my other juvenile blehri i watched them over a few hours, they are curious about eachother but both had been kept in groups so they dont fight atall
so yeah...
i know its something to do with head shape but can i tell male and female apart for both blehri and the blue assam ?
sorry if this is badly layed out... LOL
and will they cross breed ?like if they are same genus, produce some nasty hybrid or something if they somehow pair up against the odds ?

sp. Assam are the easiest channa to sex,
males have more blue in the fins, and there fins are higher.
females have more red markings.

ahhh sweeeeet i think then i definately have a male cheers for that little bit of infor ... i saw it and was like woooaaahhhh gotta get me one of those ... but yeh its realy peacful, took a few river shrimp and stuff
very nice fish
how do i sex the standard blehri? is it similar, its a litte bigger than the assam its about 5 inches long id say

Females will have a rounder belly shape compared to the male,other than this the only real way, with any channa is obtaining a group, then let them choose who they wish to pair with, getting a male n female will not work 99% of the time,
But from the sounds of it you only have one of each?

yeh im not really interested in breeding them myself, if i wanted to do that of course i would buy 6-8 juveniles and grow them/ pair them up. im was just curious is all
and yeah i have the tow of them in there, they seem fine but im guna keep an eye on them, if not i can always rehome the assam very easily

What temp is the tank? wha other fish are kept in there? they are much better suited to lower temps, good luck with them. I have kept a pair of sp assam in with another female and 6 juvi channa pulchra, they were fine together, but always best a species tank

remember channa are escape artists, if they do take a disliking with each other, they will chase alot, trying to get out basically,any gap is a potential escape hole,

Hi!

I have a pair of Bleheri that have bred, so I can tell you how mine are different.

The female is smaller, and more colorful than the male.
The main difference between the two, is from a top down view, the female has a more rounded head while the male more "wedge" like.

BTW, I find mine thrive on these parameters:

temp: Summer - 23c
Winter - 19c

ph. 6(ish)

substrate is black sand, with serious amounts of vegetation (real or plastic)
Kettapang leaves layering the bottom, as well as rolled up ones my female likes to lay in like a sleeping bag!
