Channa Pulchra - Dwarf Snakeheads

Been offered some Channa Pulchra - (Dwarf Snakeheads). £10 each delivered they seem like interesting fish.

Anyone got any experience? Good price?

I have 4 of these, they are not really a dwarf species, my 4 have reach sizes varying from 8-11", That price is very good indeed.
They are quite social between themselves (compared to most snakeheads) but will still need a fairly big tank with plenty of hiding spaces and caves. they will fight alot especially if you happen to get a mating pair. If you do get a mating pair expect a war in your tank where the pair will try and kill the others, who will probably be cowering in a corner somewhere.
I have mine in a 4'x2'x2' and there is often split fins, but generally they do actually get along.

These fish are definitely not a community fish in anyway so really should be in a species only tank IMO.

On snakeheads website somone has one thats 11 inches and probably still growing

I have 6 purchased off snakeheads forum member, I'd pay a tenner each for them

mine are still babies but beautiful sih on snaps I have seen of older ones

if you want a real "dwarf" snakehead go for c. gachua or c. bleheri they max at 6" sometimes 8" but not usualy over. there must be some exceptions obv.
and btw simonas how is the bichir and pike getting on in your 75gal cause i thought pikes killed anything that resembled their shape. especialy things like bichirs, eels and knifes?

Hi mate

the bichir and pike get on like a house on fire as does the syndontis eupterus thats with them. I've never seen any trouble between the three. the pike is growing on at a gretapace though and is probably about 8-9 inches now with a huge mouth! great fish though and his colouring is coming on a treat

another smaller channa is the Orientalis. I have three of these and they are great fish and peaceful again. Plus they are starting to colour up a lot and stunning when displaying

i had a pike that killed an tiretrack eel and a knifefish, and i later found out the stupid lfs didnt tell me they hate other latitudinal shaped fish, so just thought id warn you but obviously no reason =P

ive kept bleheri btw and it died because it jumped out of the TINIEST hole where the filter goes in. the rest was covered. so asif you are keeping a snake you must cover ALL possible exits or they will find a way out. not sure how but they do

FUNNY ENOUGH i PUT MY ROYAL KNIFE IN THERE THATS ABOUT 14 INCHES TO GIVE A SMALL SIVER DOLLAR IN THERE SOME RESPITE COS i HAD NO OTHER SPARE TANKS AND THE PIKE WENT CRAZY ON IT I HAD TO GET IT STRAIGHT OUT

ahhh caps =P lol. yeah they really hate knifes. im glad they can exist with bichirs thats always interesting tank idea
