I recently bought three way Betta tank, with this extremely smart way of having all three tanks filtered and heated, even though they're small. But the problem is the water pump pumps the clean water directly into one of the betta areas, and it's blowing the poor Betta everywhere. I've moved him to another less blowy tank till i work something out. He's one of those bettas with really short fins, and has always been able to swim agaisnt the current but he can't here.

What can i do to change the current? the pump does 200l per hour and the actual tank couldn't be more then 10g. The other two betts are away from the flow and are very happy with their new tank even though they both have really long flowy fins

It's hard to describe the tank but here goes.

It's divided lengthways in half. The divider is made up of two glass panels, both going the full length of the tank. The panels are about 3mm apart. The panel closest to the front of the tank is 2mm off from the bottom so water can pass under. The back panel has an area cut out, so water rises up between the two panels, then poors through this area into a multistage filter. The water passes through filter wool, charcoal and ceramic noodles. It then goes into the second half of the back half of the tank. In here is a heater and the pump that controls everything. The pump draws water in, then pumps it back over the center dividers and into the first Betta compartment. That water is then pushed back under the two small dividers into the other compartments. Before being sucked back under the main divider and around it goes again.

Its the firts compartment where the water is first pumped thats having the trouble. does anyone have any ideas of how to lessen the flow?

Is there anyway you could stick a right angle fitting of some type on the outlet to point the water stream up at the surface? Its tough to say without a pic...

This is the best pic I can get, its the tube that comes from the pump over to the front area. I tried pointing it at the surface but it made the underwater current even worse.

Well you could try fitting a plastic shutoff valve in there, or try and get one of those square nozzle things to flatten the flow out and disperse it across the surface. Even sticking a right angle fitting in there will lower the flow somewhat.

Or get a small sparybar attach it to the outlet. cut holes for it to slide through your dividers and youre away. everybody get freshwater.

Sorry, I find spraybars quite easy to find in the chain stores like Pets@Home (didn't read where you're from) before I clicked reply.

As for glass I guess this would either be down to someone with a diamond cutter, or the pros.

If you're UK and you have a Fluval Pump P@H internal and external pump versions for £5.99

Fraid I'm an outback Aussie. We live way out in the bush. Most fish supplies have to be ordered over the net and picked up from town which is an half an hour away. None of the online sites I've been to sell spray bars seperate. Just with pumps and filters. our local petsore is an independant warehouse type store. It sells a few small animal supplies, but mainly has working dog supplies and horse supplies.

I do ahve one spray bar here, but that's on my paradise fish's tank as he couldnt handle the current from the filter. The spray bar came with the 50 dollar filter.

Build your own spray bar. Take a length of pvc pipe the lemgth you want the spray bar, of the proper diameter to fit the hose. You can use larger pvc than the hose, and use vinyl tubing to bring the sizes to match. Drill some holes in the spray bar,and add a cap at the end opposite the hose.

Any plumbing supply outfit can help you with this, take the filter hose in, and match up parts. If you have to bring the whole filter in with yuo just put the media in the tank to keep it wet.
