Hi nashnut :)

Are you really sure you want to do this? As a general rule, it's better to leave the pH alone because the fish will adapt easily to the water they are in and a changed pH is not easy to maintain.

If you have some particular reason to alter the pH, such as a need to cater to a particular species of fish, it's a different story of course, but many lfs talk about pH to try to sell products. Please don't start if you don't have a compelling reason.

I see by your location that you live fairly close to me. Where do you shop for your fish?

Actually do more online shopping for items than anything else. Petco in Riverhead and Petland in Riverhead carry a few things I need. I breed Bettas mainly and they don't carry much along that line that I am interested in. I've got a marble pair of CT's that I am currently setting up.

I was actually thinking of trying to breed Kuhlis. I finally got some that have stayed alive more than 24 hours. However, because they hide so much, I am not really sure just how many made it. I did lose 1 kuhli which was lethargic when it arrived, one otto which looked like he had been injured and one black kuhli which surprised me. In reading all the stats on them it seems that they live in the 6-7 ph range so I was toying with the item of doing a slight change.

I had them back in the late 50's before anyone bred them and had a female loaded with eggs. Unfortunately I had a heater malfunction while I was away and that ended that. However, it did lead to an encounter with Dr Axelrod, who at that time was big in the TF world.
