Changing Over To Sand In Oscar Tank

i used this sand with my oscars. looked good when clean for about 2 days then look owfull after that lol. also i found that wen the top layer of sand was clean underneth was black.

and like shagleigh said it doesnt smell to good on cleaning day

Come to think of it, that happened to me too with my play sand in a 55 gallon community tank... when I sifted it, I saw the sand had a black layer underneath. That wasn't slime or anything, it's just the color of it went black.

maybe i'll leave the sand idea then lol, i dont wanna make even more work for myself.
ok can i see some pics of your oscar tanks so i can have some ideas on how i can change mine, my tank just looks empty and boring really so wanna do a change of some sort.

im looking into getting a couple jack dempseys today and maybe some green terrors and silver dollers just to make it move a little, there is 3 tiger oscars in there and a albino oscar at the moment but i will be getting rid of two of them when they are bigger just have to wait and see which 1s.
thanks guys

Background, Middle, foreground plants, Big bit of Bogwood, And improve your lighting it looks a bit dull in their atm :D

i would have some java fern or amazon sword on the mopani wood ( well i say i would have cos i have) but to be honest anyhing else is just going to be a waste of money and space, when they get a bit bigger they will move things about and start ripping the plants up ( tho jambo is fine with the java fern) i also have some floating plants, but this is purely to discourage the monkey from jumping.
im thinking it looks fine as it is , i would be tempted to stick on a black background tho, oscars really show up against it :)

shelagh xxx

gonna change my tank over to a black background once i find something suitable to do it with :)

Any idea's on where to get somethign suitable for the background for? My tank is quite deep and the LFS, while they have nice glossy black backgrounds, dont have anything 'tall' enough :( Was thinking about getting some black card or something from the craft shop but I guess I need something waterproof as I always get a little bit of water all over the shop whilst cleaning

i have been out and bought myself a large flowerpot which has some big fancy holes in to go in my tank, would i be able to get moss to grow over it ok and if so how do i do this?
which moss would be best for the job?

Yep easy to get moss to grow over them, lay it over in strips in different directions, not too thick layered or the moss underneath wont get the light, get a hairnet to go over it and tie it down, grows pretty fast and looks good.

Java moss is a good one to use.

here is my tank....

Between the Oscar and Plec, i'm vacuuming the tank every couple of days. Sand is a chore.

edit (lol would help if i added a picture eh?):
