Hello TFF community

I'd like to adapt the outflow of my juwel filter as this system is highly inefficient (outflow next to inlet, what's up with that...)

I want to lengthen the outflow with pipes to the other side of the aquarium (juwel 450), so that the outflow is far away from the filter inlet.

thanks!
Steven

Measure the CSA of the pipe and nip down DIY store and buy some pvc pipe and corner angles, i think it will look horrible though.
Or maybe run the outlet though a spray bar along the back on the tank.

I was thinking along those lines too.

I was thinking getting some 'nice looking' piping to connect to the angled tube from juwel, then run it to the top,
and then run the pipes over the two support bars at the top.

Spray bar also may be a good idea.

What's the upside to a spray bar? As i suspect you get less 'flow' through the tank?

tnx for your reply!

I have seen many posts about wanting to move the inlet and outlet away from each other which lead me into think why both internal and external pipes are always situated so close in the first place.

The answer is pretty obvious really

Water is sucked into the filter then blasted away to the furthest point of the tank where is is slowly drawn back toward the filter again hence dispersing water evenly (as designed). If the outlet is moved to the opposite side of the tank from the filter, or inlet pipe of an external, then the filtered water is directly flowed back toward the filter lessening the 'mixing' to a degree.

Well that's my thinking anyways but I'm no scientist :fun:

A spray bar is often nothing but a blanked off piece of pipe with holes drilled along the length. My Rena XP series came with them in the kit and I just chose to use them instead of the jet nozzles that also came with the filters. The advantage, at lest in my mind, was that I got flow from each of those little holes along the length of the bar instead of having all the flow in one place. In my 6 foot tank I put the inlet tubing in one corner and put the spray bar along the back near the other end. End result was lots of flow near the spray bar and flow lengthwise along the tank back toward the inlet tube. Arrangement would depend on what shape and size tank you have to work with IMO.

@ Doresey; I think that could work, but the juwel filter doesnt really 'blast' water across the tank. It creates a double whirlpool,
a small one near the filter, and a bigger one which is the rest of the tank... Bad mixing, that is!

@ Oldman47: Thats indeed a nice combination of the two solutions. Perhaps I will give that a go.
I'm working with a standard bowfront Juwel Vision 450.

Where's your spraybar located? In the water or slightly above it?
