Hi, i have a 6G tank and want to change my filter (Interpet PF1) because i got it 2nd hand and it jams a lot even after a good clean :/. I want to change it to the fluval u1 (heard they are really good).

Is this filter ok for my tank size?
How do i do the change over?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

To change filter, either move all old media into the new filter or run the filters in parallel for 6 weeks.

dont no about the size of filter as ive never used one but to change them over i would take old filter out squeeze media in a bowl ov ur fish tank water then place back into the aquarium as normal put ur new media in the dirty water and squeeze a few times to absorb some of the bacteria then place the new filter into the aquarium and run both at the same time to help get the new filter ready to run the tank alone and reduce the chances of the water parameters being damaged :D

there might be an easier way but this is how ive done it in the past someone else with more knowledge will probably give advise soon :D

As KK said - take the media (that;s the sponge or rings or whatever) out of your Interpet internal and put them inside the Fluval filter (obviously removing the fluval sponge bits first). Job done! :good:

+ 1 I did that when I changed to a Fluval. I took all the media out of my old filter and popped it in the new one. It took about a day to cycle.

+1 on KittyKats advice re making the change over - ideally your entire beneficial bacteria colony (living in the filter media) needs to be transferred from your old filter to your new one in order to avoid throwing your tank into a new cycle. Of course, it might not fit. In that case as recommended above, run both filters until the bacteria colony forms in your new filter. At no stage in the proceedings rinse your filter media with fresh tap water because the chlorine will kill your bacteria colony - instead always rinse excessive gunk out your filter in a container of water from your tank.
To answer the first part of your question, a fluval u1 sounds like a great choice for your 6 gallon tank (27 litres) since it's recommended for aquariums of up to 12 gallons. I've never had any probs with fluval stuff. Good luck with the switchover.
