Changing filter sponge

Sorry if i missed it but why do you want to change the filter media?
You should never have to change the sponges only rinse them when they get clogged. The white filter floss is the one that needs to be changed and that can be rinsed out to.

I have never changed any of my sponges and dont intend to unless they get damaged some how.

Hi Nidge, I agree with what you say in principal but the sponges don't last for ever (at least not in Fluvals). I get about about 2 years max out of them, they eventually fall apart and i replace them (1 at a time) at the early signs of this.

I want to change it because its second hand and it was stored in a pretty bad way and needed a lot of cleaning b4 i used it. Might not make any dif but will make me feel better
