macracantha Greek = long spike

macracanthus the same Greek = long spike

Go on then....here's some to keep you busy

Liposarcus pardalis
Glyptoperichthys gibbiceps
Hypostomus hemicochliodon
Baryancistrus demantoides

Would we know if you're making this up?

Liposarcus pardalis
invalid taxa now Pterygoplichthys pardalis
Greek, pterygion, diminutive of pteryx = wing, fin + Greek, hoplon = weapon + Greek, ichthys = fish
I can't find a mean for padalis but have found the Ocelot is called Leopardus pardalis, so
perhaps it was called that because of its markings?

Glyptoperichthys gibbiceps
Greek, glyptes = carver + Greek,peri = around + Greek, ichthys = fish
gibbiceps means With a hump on the head.

Hypostomus hemicochliodon
Greek, hypo = under + Greek, stoma = mouth
hemicochliodon = spoon-shaped teeth

Baryancistrus demantoides
Greek, barys = heavy + Greek, agkistron = hook

again two failuers on the second part

tis enough for me
if anyone else wants to take the challenge, feel free :good:
