I have been reading of the increase in popularity of using energy saving CFL light bulbs in aquariums, they offer a much cheaper option to T5 lighting and for someone on a very tight budget, these do look to be a very attractive alternative.

The bulbs I have been looking at are these

Energy Saving Spiral 30W Daylight BC (160 Watt Alternative)
High luminous maintenance:
80% lumen at 8,000 hours
6500K (Daylight)
220-240V
Unique Spiral Shape
30W High intensity CFL Replaces Incandescent GLS light bulbs.
8,000 hours life low energy consumption

My question, is the colour temp OK for a planted tank, and if a 30W bulb is equivalent to 160W which wattage do I use to calculate the WPG for a 60G tank, I was thinking 4 bulbs at 30W will give me 120W = 2WPG, if its the equivalent number that's going to be 640W = 10.66WPG which I think is way to high, what are your thoughts?

Colour temp is fine, I know a lot of people using 30watt lights you speak of with really good plant growth.

I think over a 60gallon tank, I'd try 4-6 and check the results really.

6500k is perfect
Wpg does not apply here

Thanks both, think I will start off with 4 try for a few weeks then add 2 more and repeat and compare results, now I just have to get my stand and hood built and I'll be good to go :)
