I am currently working on building two 50 gallon tanks. When they are finished I want to keep similar types of fish in each. I was wondering if anyone had stumbled across or had an idea to build a central filtering untit for multiple tanks.

My idea would work something like this:

1) water is pumped from uncycled tanks into a holding tank (20 gal, cycled with active bacterial cultures and an air stone.

2) water is sucked through filters and into side clipped holders that airates the water with small stones.

3) when water in the side clipped holder rises to top, it is cascaded out into the uncycled tank.

I dunno, I tend to dream a lot but I think it could really do a great job at helping cycle and filter tanks.

PS: and yes I have experience with plumbing ^^

Well, i think it would work.

But there is one obvious disadvantage. If one tank gets an infection, every tank will get the same infection.

P.T.

true... I was thinking about this to cycle tanks though as there would be a very active and live bacterial culture build withing the twenty gallon.

I am also a paranoid person ^^ any new fish I get has to move into my 10 gallon medical tank for a quarentine period lasting 10 or more days.

just if it makes any difference, these are going to be outgrow tanks.
