i have recently lost my blood parrot who was the centerpiece for my 35 gallon tank , can anyone suggest something to replace him.

Also do you have a centerpiece fish and what is it?

What other fish do you have in your 35gallon tank and how did you loose your parrot fish?

Me personally, my common and sailfin plecos are the centre peice fish in my 3 main tanks since they are the largest fish in each tank and are great fish to own, i love their prehistoric/ancient catfish look :) .

in my 35 i have a red tailed shark, a bulldog plec ,a golden panchaux 2 flying fox, 2 yo yo loach 3 panda cories and a couple of long arm shrimp. i lost my parrot cilchid in a wierd way, i had him for about 18 months and was doing great , i fed him saturday morning and ate all his cichlid pellets, i came back 30 mins later and he was dead, is is possible for them to choke i wonder?

Long arm shrimp is just a general name given to a whole group of shrimp, long arm shrimp tend to be predatory shrimp and can be territorial critters, you should get yours ID'd as some long arm shrimp can grow quite large and may attack fish;

Its posible you over-fed your parrot fish on the cichlid pelets, although it could have died of other internal problems that went unnoticed.

What sort of substrate does your tank have :) ?

Unfortunate to heard about your blood parrot :( For another centre piece fish you could try something a little different, such as a Butterfly fish, or you could go back to basics and try Angelfish.

Personally in my Saltwater tank my centre piece fish is my Velvet Blue Damsel, in my African Cichlid tank it's my nice BIG male sunshine peacock, and in my 55 gallon it's my Butterfly fish and Angels.

i didnt over feed him i only give him 3 or 4 medium size pellets daily and live bloodworm once a week but anyway the nature of this post is not how he died, and the shrimp are Chameleon Shrimp which i have had for two years or there abouts, one male and two females. i have a well planted tank with sand.

i dont personally like angelfish but the sunshine peacock is a lovely fish, what size tank have you got it in.

thanks for the suggestions

The peacock would probably be a bit too aggressive for what you have, and considering the territory/swimming space they need, your tank is too small.
If your tank is 18" tall, I think an angelfish would be lovely.

Oh, almost forgot, the centerpiece fish in my mbuna tank is a female pseudotropheus crabro.

another lovely fish, yes i agree the peacock probably wouldn't suit my tank , its hard to find a medium size fish thats colourful and has a personality without being too big or too small. i wish i had the room for a 55 gallon or bigger upgrade but for now i will have to continue to find the fish that will suit my tank as it is, thanks for the suggestions and letting me know what your centerpiece fish is :good:

my glass cats are my centre piece, great talking point for people that havent seen them before.... some of my friends have gone 'wow you can see straight through them...are you meant to' LOL

and the stripe my betta in the smaller tank but thats coz hes by himself

The sunshine peacocks ina 75gallon African Cichlid tank, DO NOT put any african cichlids with communal based fish such as your shirmp, your yoyo loaches, your cory cats, you flying foxes and your golden wonder killi. All these fish will end up as food for him, plus a 35gallon tank is much too small as African cichlids are quiet active fish.

unless i was gonna use them as food, nah the only cilchids i would put in that tank would be dwarf ones from south america like bolivian rams which are nice but a little too small for what i would call centerpiece fish

We've got a pair of Keyhole Cichlids as our centrepiece fish. Beautiful fish and very peaceful.

I would have to say that I have more than one type of centerpiece fish that all blend together nicely.
The 2 angel fish for size and beauty
THe rams for color and beauty.
THe schools of tetras (red serpae and diamonds) also add a lot in my opinion and the tank would be boring without them.

sorry to hear of your loss but why not try an elephant nose as a replacement and if all works well add a few more for company great looking fish too
