I have a planted 20 gallon high currently stocked with harlequin rasboras, cherry barbs, and a clown pleco, and now I would like to add a small centerpiece fish.
I had a honey gourami in there, but I think I would like to try something different. I loved him, but I want to explore some other species (however, if that's the only option, I'm not opposed to getting another honey gourami).
My water is very soft. I don't remember the exact parameters, but I could probably find that if necessary.
The new fish has to be very peaceful, and work well in a community tank. Long fins is not an issue, as none of the other fish ever bothered my gourami or nipped at his feelers.
I would also like a fish with some personality. One that will swim up to greet me, like my gourami or my betta.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Get 3 peacock gudgeons, they are bursting with color and only quarrel amongst themselves... I would be careful how much you stock tho... It seems like you are at your max as it is but Idk... I have a 20H as well... Could I see a pic of the tank?

I heard peacock gudgeons are kind of skittish. Is that true?

I mean if you tap on the glass when they are with you yah... But mine literally come right up to the siphon and "peck" at it because they see all the tiny particles inside floating around... I have to shoo them off 😂... So their skittish only when they get really scared.

Oh okay, that's good to know. They're definitely a possibility then!
I also heard they are picky eaters. Have you had any trouble with that?
Is it possible to get a pair instead of a trio, or do they need larger groups?

Mine have been gobnling up the fluval bug bites! They love em! You COULD do a pair but get a trio at first... I got a trio and one died from stress leaving me with a pair... If you get a pair at first and then one dies you cant add on due to the fact they will kill any additions of their kind... They wont kill other fish but when its their species they go nuts... My pair ks doing just fine, every now and then you will see the male chase the female but that's normal for them...

Okay, makes sense.
I'm glad they like bug bites, because my other fish love that too.
Thank you very much for your help!

No problem! Glad I could help with your deciding. And if you do decide to get them, make sure each male has its own cave. At first I had large caves set up, but they were not too enthused by them... They love smaller caves so just make sure they have their small caves.

Okay, thanks for letting me know!
