i've been thinking of how to do some caves in my tank, not horizontal but vertically so there are more caves.

i'm wondering if it would look as good as it sounds in the end or if it just depends on the skill of the person doing it. ;)

for those that have made caves do you find your cichlids using them a lot?

the tank is a 55 gallon long.

here's a url of a guy who has done it (and set the idea in my mind)

Looks pretty good and a nice idea.
But it would depend on your attention to detail whilst fitting the rocks to the background if it was to look good, but im sure if you took your time it would be easy enough to completely conceal the guttering so it looks just like rocks.

Im messing around with the rocks for my soon to be apistogramma tank just now. Just going to try create a rockscape that forms natural caves and crevices. Should work out okay hopefully.
