catfish with long barbels

Have a look at a synodontis angelicus. These are a lovely fish and can be kept on their own.They grow to 8-10 inches.
 
Actually the synodontis cats do have long 'whiskers'. Mine do! And they have a more substantial body on them (look chubbier rather than streamlined) and really are full of character. You'll often find older ones ppl have taken back because their tanks are too small or some other reason. Some places also sell young synos no more than an inch.

In the world of catfishes Synodontis catfish barbels are quite small when compared to the truely long whiskered families such as Pimelodidae and Bagridae of which some species have whiskers over twice their body length.
