Catfish Disease????

Thanks a lot for your assistance. I think I'll be shopping for a quarantine tank this week, but in the meantime, I'll treat the tank.

If it is bacterial, then I don't know if the other fish I got with the tank are also affected, and just not showing symptoms yet.

Thanks again.

How is you BN doing now - any improvement ?

I treated the tank with the mixed treatment I mentioned earlier. I was leaving him alone as I didn't want to stress him while he is recuperating.

My local fish shop said it could be a heater burn that has becomeinfected. Not sure I believe this though.

Anyway, it has been 3 days since i started treatment, so I'll be doing a 25% water change tonight (as per the directions on the bottle) and will check on it then.

He doesn't seem to be in any discomfort though, so I'm hoping it is clearing up. If it still looks bad, I'll redose the tank tonight after the water change.

Thanks for your concern.

Unfortunately, though, I lost our first fish last night - a pearl male betta. We've had him since christmas, and yesterday he went off his food and went very pale. This morning he was gone. :(

SOrry for dragging this thread back to the top, but just thought I'd update those who were interested.

Bob (or Bobette as she is now known now that we have confirmed that she is a she) is making a full recovery. The mark on her belly continues to improve, and is now about 1/4 the size it was when I took the pictures in this thread.

She is far more active, and spends less time hiding under plants and driftwood now than she usd to. She is now making regular rounds of the tank, especially just before lights out, and is eating properly.

Thanks again for the help I received on this thread. I appreciate it.

it could have been a burn as i got a RTC that had sat on a heater and burned the underside of his stomach, th pet shop kept him till he was completly healed before i brought him home, and he's fine now

hope yu BN carries on doing well

Clare

Not sure what caused it. I lost a Zebra Danio to a bacterial infection of some kind (had what looked like a cotton ball attached to it's side, so not sure if they both had an infection, or it was two different causes.

I was told by the LFS that it could be a heater burn, but I didn't take the fish in to see him (he's a 35 minute drive away, and I didn't want to unduly stress bobette). I used a multi-purpose treatment that covers a few common infections, and it definitely helped.
