Hello everyone,

As per title I am having an absolute nightmare trying to catch the BlackWidow Tetras in my tank    :grr:

I want rid of them and have managed to catch only 1 in the last 4 days!! I have become so angry trying to catch them its unreal!
When ever I go near the tank they go straight to the back of the tank and hide between all the plants, the worst thing is the other fish have been swimming in and out of the net without a care in the world but the fish I want in the net arnt having any of it.

Any tips or advice on how to catch the bl**dy things would be great :good:

ps; im trying to catch them from the tank in my sig

have you tried a fish trap? you can make an easy one by taking a plastic bottle and cutting the top off and then inverting it back into the other half of the bottle..place some food inside and put it in the tank. might take a bit but the fish shoudl swim inside and then not be able to get back out.

I am having an absolute nightmare trying to catch the little sods in my tank

i know the feling mate, only tip i can suggest is the biggest net you can get, plus a.n. other
put the big one in and under if you can where they usually go and leave it for a bit, then go back with the other net, if they go to there usuall retreat your net is sitting ready underneath them, this worked for me, eventually, i even talk to the little buggers as i`m doing it, trying to tell them i`m only trying to help them...but they never listen though

good luck

You want to get rid off them? why?, and are you giving/selling them to your lfs?

Giving them to a member on here, wanting to get more Cardinals to go in the tank and want these gone :good:

May give that a go but more than likley it will just be the cardinals that get trapped

Thanks will have to give this a try also, I mat have a better chance on Sunday when I do my water change, at least then they will only have half a tank to hide in which may help.

I feel your pain... Took me an hour an 35 minute to catch 11 bleeding heart tetras from my planted tank, ended up pretty much destroying my tank to catch them. Using 2 nets is the best way that i found, even then though they were jumping out by the time the net was lifted out of the tank - vowed then to be more carefull with what i put in there.

I always catch my fish by feeding them and then waiting for the fish you want to come to the surface, and then swoop down and catch them

Haha! It took me about half an hour to catch 1 oto the other day, in a bucket with nothing in! Ended up using my hand to encourage it into the net. Not so easy with that many plants in your tank though! Good luck!

i emptied my 5 foot tank to catch some corys for minnnt :| :D

tetras sleep at night, leave the lid open and sneek down with your phone for light and net them in the dark :D

I've found emptying the tank of a lot of its water helps - it seems to make my fish come out more and gives them less space to run away to as well.

Having said that, when I recently had to move my tank to another room, I ended up moving it with alot of the fish still in there, they were just refusing to be caught. In the end I reasoned it would be less stressful for the fish that way than waving a net around in the tank for a few hours. I know that doesn't help you though.

I'm dreading having to move the tank back upstairs when the redecorating is done, but the room layout will be different then and I'm removing the plants and doing a rescape as it's getting untidy and the tank will be viewed from different angles than it currently is.

Thanks for all the advice given people :good:

I managed to catch one this morning, I came down and whilst the lights were out put a net in the tank, all he fish were hanging around the middle and did seem like they were sleeping, I managed to net one BW Tetra then the rest shot off in between the plants.

The plan from now will be to catch 1 each morning, so should have them all out by Tuesday
