That is just well freeky. But still so adorable. He is really cute. Does he use both mouths? Poor little thing. His owner seems to love him, so can't be all bad.
Ohh, I've seen deformities like that before. They're usually dead though. We had a few in jars in our Anatomy lab when I was in vet tech school. Pretty wild that he's lived to be six!
I was expecting another kitten - but that is truelly amazing. I really didn't think it was possible for them to survive more than a few weeks. She's beautiful, too!
That deformity is not unheard of. There is a show on Animal Planet called Amazing Animal Videos, and sometimes they will feature videos of kittens born with two faces like the one I saw in that video. It's not really creepy to me. I like animals just the way they are, with our without two faces.
Haha, sweet. I want one
It is exceptionally rare for animals with this deformity to survive as long as he has, he is probably the only one ever to live so long. There was a pig called Ditto with the same deformity that lived for quite a while, but died because one face was breathing while the other was eating... it got food in its lungs.
Yeah, they have a much better chance of survival if one face's mouth and nose don't connect to anything.
Funny little tidbit, the protein that usually causes this type of deformity is called Sonic Hedgehog. Yes, the Sonic Hedgehog protein. One would never guess that it was discovered in the 80s.
