Cat Litter Distribution Question

Ok, so I want to have some decent plants in my upgrade tank, and I seem to see everywhere that cat little is one of the best substrates. Also, in planning to have corys, I don't fancy them digging down to a soil substrate and kicking it everywhere (not sure if that actually happens

However, my question is about how even the cat litter needs to be? For example, if I know certain areas are going to be plant free, can I leave those areas without any litter? or do I have to cover the whole base?

i should imagine that where there will be no plants then there is no need for it.....

I guess I'm just worried about excess pressure on the glass in the places with clay due to uneven weight distribution

if you have it on a flat, supportive surface it shouldnt matter too much

There is hardly any weight in the cat litter but you will find that it pretty much levels it's self out with the circulation etc.
