I had this problem ages ago and believe me neutering was really the cure..
if you dont mind me asking are the females neatered?
many people cant afford too neuter there cats, the best thing too do is get hold of PDSA or i think the blue cross do a thing where they help people who cant afford the pets they keep.

Why can't your other female cat have kittens? She maybe the reason the male is crazy I would fix him ASAP before he decides he needs to spray your house as his territory.

You seriously need to neuter that cat urgently. Please speak to your vet for further advice to understand why you're having the problems you are.

Oh my... If you've trained the cat for indoor living, it won't spray anything. Neutering them won't help if it's not house trained....

You don't HAVE to neuter the animal. If the only problem is that it's behaving a little recklessly and attacking people, you could always get it declawed. I have a male cat, that's not been neutered, and he's fine because he doesn't have claws to scratch people or rip furniture with. I also have a female cat, and she hasn't been neutered either. No problems at all.

It does make a difference if their indoor or outdoor cats. It sounds like you have indoor cats, but I guess I should ask. If you do let them out regularly, without a leash, then yes, you must neuter him, because it'll start to sex up the strays.

Declawing isn't allowed in the UK (unless for a medical reason).

I'd strongly recommend you get him neutered - honestly, it's not nearly as bad as you think. He's not a person, he doesn't feel the same way that humans do about his bits. Our cats have been done, and it's no big deal to them. It's not that they don't have a sense of dignity - quite the opposite - but they're not humans, they think differently - you can't just project your feelings onto him - he doesn't think like us. At the moment he's driven by very strong feelings that make him mad, and after neutering those feelings subside. You might even find that you get back the cuddly chatty boy you fell in love with.

If cost is an issue, then your local vet might be able to advise, or the PDSA. If you give them a call, explain the problem, you've got nothing to lose.

If you don't get him neutered, he's likely to spray to mark his territory (nothing to do with being house-trained or not, it's about territory), get into lots of fights if you let him out, as well as the aggressive/defensive and other problem behaviour you've noticed. Some people get lucky with male cats who are more chilled, but yours isn't one of those, and as you say, you can't risk him turning on your kid. My mum knew a child who nearly lost an eye to a cat who lashed out the way you describe - you can't risk it.

If you give the cat to Cats Protection, RSPCA or another charity, they're very very unlikely to put him down unless he's sick.

I agree 100% with rhostog. My wife and I ran a cat rescue for 10 years and have had many, many, many...cats of our own over the years (currently down to 15). Our favourites have always been the neutered males, they're so sweet when you take their testosterone away! As for declawing, basically what they do is clip off the first digit of each toe, it's an amputation and is very painful, not mention very expensive. I'm so glad to hear they're banning it now. It's still done here in Canada by lots of Vets.
