Hey all,
just wondering if this sand would be safe for khuli's ?
I have a 90L tank with 20 neons and a dwarf gourami. Would khuli's fit though??
thanks :)

Kuhlis would fit in your tsnk, but the Moon sand isn't bottom dweller safe; too sharp and gritty.

Which is a shame because when it come to sand which is truly black, caribsea Tahitian has few competitors.

Ok thank you both, is there any other black sand that is safe ? or would i be stuck with lighter stuff?

I changed my big tank from argos play sand to unipac limpopo yesterday. It is not jet black, but it looks great. I think that it also looks a little more natuaral then the moon sand.

I've used Stoney River brand black aquarium sand and it looks very good, although it's more dark gray than it is black. It does look great but it's also expensive, about $6 for a 5 pound bag. A large tank would cost quite a bit.

ruskull what gravel is that in ut tank in ur sig

That's black gravel & Stoney River black sand mixed together.

It's not what I wanted but I couldn't get the plants to stay in place with the black sand alone so I added a bag of whatever black gravel PetSmart sells. It was most of a 20 pound bag at one point and I think it costs about $20-$25.

What I didn't realize is that the sand sinks through to the bottom leaving the gravel on the top. I've been slowly removing all the gravel with each water change. It should be completely sand in a few more weeks. If you look at the side of the glass you'd see that 85% is sand with only a thin top layer of the gravel. I used to have Corys in that tank & they didn't mind the mix.................

Once I have 99% of the gravel out I already have (2) five pound bags of Stoney River black sand to top it off.
