Can anyone tell me why a seller would label Cardinal tetras for expert fish keepers only?

Because they used to be considered way more sensitive than neons but the roles have kind of reversed. Rummynose are labeled the same as well. For some reason one seller labels otocinclus as expert only as well

I've always thought of cardinals as hardy fish. As long as you're mindful about water changes, feeding a variety of food, providing a stress-free tank, things should be good.

Are wild caught cardinals hardier or captive bred?

Probably captive bred but not by much. Even captive breeding doesn't change their needs much :)especially for GH and PH like people think

They might be calling them "advanced fish" or "suitable for experienced keepers" because they are wild caught. The wild caught fish need more specific requirements than their captive bred counterparts.

Might also be a reflection on their preference for warmer water than the average community tank.
