Cardinal Vs Neon

My personal opinion is that there is not enough difference between these two types to draw that sort of conclusion. I think its easier to treat them basically as the same. Always wait for a new tank to age 6 months (unrelated to the cycling, the cycling can be part of this time period) and often I think one should buy an extra 2 of these as you may lose one or two during the transporting/acclimation.. they're just that delicate. Once acclimated and settled they are not nearly so delicate.

I've learned never to underestimate this forum for having extremely experienced aquarists out there, so maybe somebody has lots of comparison experience between these (?)

My tank was aged 2 years and I bought 10 neons. They'd been in the lfs weeks and were healthy looking and a little larger than others you often see. Thought I was doing great as still had 10 after a week! Day 8 came and they got white-spot and died one by one. Now just 2 left but not trying any more.

Well about 2 years ago, I added a batch of five.. and then later a month or so another 5 -6. All died within a year except ONE.

That one is still going strong. (neon).
