I may well have now been talked into cardinal tetras.... for my planted tank

Will they breed in REALLY acidic very soft water

My understanding is the water needs to be soft *and* dark. I can't recall if the eggs decay in sunlight or whether the fish just won't spawn. One or the other.

Good luck!

i`m not fussed about the eggs surviving or not, just wondering if they would spawn,
Guess a high tec planted tank isn`t the ideal place for them

Ian i have a shoal of 23 in my tank and they look great against the green backdrop and a huge bonus over the neons for stabillity and the fact they dont contract NTD. Ive never witnessed any spawning from them and consider the eggs and fry are light sensitive they would sharp die off .

I`ve been doing my research. and aparently during the dry season they live in black water rivers with a low ph and low kh then they breed in the wet season. when the ph rises slightly and they have acces to new grounds...

SO hopefully the large water chnages that E.I asks for they should hopefully see that this is the wet season and spawn
