Cardinal Tetras - White Spot

Protozin is pretty good medication I have used it before, however not all ich can be killed with raising the temperature and salt, there are some more resilliant strains about, I have not long ago had that when heat and salt did not work. You can try esha exit if the protozin does not work (do a waterchange and leave the recomended amount of days as per the manufacturers instructions when changing meds), its a highly affective medication and cured the ich I had in a tank in just 4 days, its also biodegradable so no need for massive water changes.

Ahh very interesting start4, thank you! Nice to have a backup plan, I will see if my LFS has some of this at the weekend as Protozin takes 6 days according to the bottle so if it hasn't worked by saturday I will try esha exit. I believe that Protozin requires 48 hours before you can change meds?

Okay third day of treatment! The Cardinals are definitely looking better apart from one who has quite a few spots still and two of the guppies seem to have the entire edge of their tail fin covered in ick :( I think thats whats causing them to look so ragged. After the ick is gone would something like Melafix be good for the damaged fins? Thanks everyone!

Glad they're getting better!

Once the ICH is gone, for the guppies fin, what I would recommend is separating them into a quarantine tank and performing daily water changes of 50%. IMO clean water is the best treatment for damaged fins.

Thanks everyone! This is the second day of treatment. Im seeing a little bit of improvement in the tetras, some of the parasites seem to have dropped off, also they are all still eating really well. Unfortunately the guppies seem to have gotten it pretty bad, could ick cause the guppies fins to be a bit ragged? I have checked ammonia and thats 0 but the guppies fins are looking a bit damaged. DoubleDutch, are you looking at the second pic? If you are then it is thats just food not a growth, I uploaded it to show they were still eating well

. Meeresstille, if the med hasn't worked by then end of the treatment (6 days) at 28.5c then I will use the salt and heat method, I have heard up to 30c to kill ick! Apparently some strains can take up to 32c!
