I know a lot of people don't agree mixing small shoal fish with angels, especially neons. But my angels are already with guppies and I have read that as long if they grow up with them they are generally fine?

Its just because I need a shoal of fish for the mid range and I am missing a lot of blue colour.

If you could advise me that'd be great.

You can keep the cardinals with angels, just keep the angels well fed and only add reasonably sized cardinals/neons to the tank. :hey:

yeah agree with carl if the angels are fully grown then only add fully grown cardinals. my angels were about 4 inches across and didnt bother any smaller fish to be honest just themselves... it also depends on the angels temperament. if they have lived with guppys then it shouldnt be a problem :good:
cardinals are not the best shoaling fish about, i have 14 and mine are all over the place and only group when frightened. when first added they will stay as a group but when they are used to their surroundings and tank mates they just go where they want. the best fish for staying together i have kept are rummynose tetras or my torpedo barbs, they never leave each others side, not for long anyway :good:

neons will become dinner. Cardinals will be better, although, you should never trust an Angel IMO.

Yeah I never really listen to much of the "temperament" of certain fish like bettas and angelfish. It all really depends on the fish. My male betta is a complete softy! Compared to one i saw today in my LFS who was chasing every fish around constantly and trying to kill them, I did mention it but they didn't seem to care really. The angels are quite young so I will probably get some young ones but replace them with larger ones if required!

yeah 100% no no for neons. most people will say to avoid the thin torpedo shaped fish like neons, cardinals, rummynose etc etc and go for a more fuller bodied fish like serpae, phantom, etc etc this way the angels wont see them as mouth sized snacks. ive also kept cardinals and rummynose tetras with discus and they didnt bother them 1 bit. if the tank is heavilly planted with areas of escapr for the cardinals then you should be ok as the angels shape and size gives it a real disadvantage

I disagree, got 5 Neons in my tank, and my angelfish is 6" top to bottom, never had any problems with them, keep the angelfish well fed, althought it also depends highly on fish temprement.

Agree, I have Neons and angels for just under 2 years, no problems
90% yes for medium sized neons
The neons will only be eaten if you starve the Angels and the Neons are tiny (1cm)

Thanks for your help but i dont think ill risk it. Im just gonna get two electric blue rams instead

Thanks for your help guys!

I had to learn the hard way since I bought about 6 tiny cardinals a few months back and my fairly decent sized angel ate them all. Cardinals have to be big or the angel small
