Can't Find A Shrimp Section So Here It Is

They aren't amano shrimp, they look like either Macrobrachium or ghost shrimp. Look more like Macrobrachium species to me, but I've yet to see proper ghost shrimp in the flesh yet (always seen macros mis-labelled as such).

Either way, the eggs aren't layed, but hatch out into larvae, which may or may not grow up in freshwater depending on the exact species. But fish will eat them, and they will also get sucked up into filters.

Defo not amano's this is an amano(click to enlarge):

same as 3 fingers its a macrobrachium species by the looks to me

Look nothing like amano :p. Arched back, long claws deeply serrated long rostrum, colours and big green eggs :good:.

If the colours arent right, they could be Macrobrachium lanchesteri.

I have a pair, they are a nightmare (eat all my shrimp and snails ).

Mine are fully grown, yours may no be, but do they look anything like this?

Around 3 inches, add another inch or so for claws.

They breed, but larvae get sucked up by powerfilters so you'll need to use a sponge filter, or put a sponge (the ones for the original Fluval internals are good) over your filter intake. They also eat smaller shrimp (as you can see in the pic above) so it's best to let the female birth in a separate tank with a sponge filter if you want to raise the young. Feed them on powdered fish flake (very finely powdered), or preferably something like spirulina powder (£1.50 off eBay) or Microzell when they are in the larval stage.
